Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room
Savannah, GA
Latest Review
Sema Wilkes who died at 95 in 2002 started serving breakfast & lunch at communal tables in the 1940's.This is still going on today in the basement dining room of a graceful 1870's house. The menu changes daily based on what is seasonally available. It will however be Savannah residents have eaten always; fried or barbecued chicken, red rice and sausage, black-eyed peas, corn on the cob, squash and yams, okra, corn bread, and collard greens.
