Franklin Institute and Science Museum
Philadelphia, PA
Latest Review
Opened to the public on January 1, 1934; it has gone far beyond it's original mission of honoring Ben Franklin. The Museum's hands-on approach to science and technology, combined with the Fels Planetarium, make the Institute a popular spot. The Mandell Center, Tuttleman IMAX Theater, and Musser Theater have added greatly to the size and appeal of The Franklin Institute. The new exhibits, exciting Omnimax films, and interactive presentations continue the Institute's long tradition of making science and technology fun. Make sure you take the kids-They will never forget it!I still remember my first visit with my school in about 1954

Come see where the industry that puts a drop of oil in your life every day was born. A steam engine whistle calls you to the replica of Edwin Drake's 1859 engine house, where oil from the famous well flows into a "never filling" barrel. Follow squeaking rod lines to learn how pioneer oil workers used one engine to pump many wells. They invented a whole new industry.
